Minister of Internal Affairs Talaat Pasha toured plundered and affected areas all along the coast, from Balıkesir to Manisa, in order to “restore order”. This is the coded telegram he sent after having visited Old Phocaea, four days after the end of the pogrom.

Talaat Pasha

Talaat Pasha was the Minister of Internal Affairs from 1913 until the end of WWI. Together with Enver and Cemal pashas, He was one of the “Three Pashas”, the triumverate that essentially ruled the Ottoman Empire at the time.
